Research Interests:

The Urologic Stem Cell Laboratory has two main focuses: stem cell biology and urologic tissue engineering. With the support of SHC we were the first laboratory to identify and characterize adult urothelial stem cells. In addition, with the support of SHC, we were the first laboratory to induce human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells into urothelium. With respect to bioengineering, we have focused on fundamental mechanisms and recently discovered new mechanisms of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis.

My clinical research covers all aspects of Pediatric Urology. In particular, I am dedicated to improving the outcomes of children with spina bifida and have evaluated strategies to preserve kidney function, improve quality of life through reconstructive procedures and recently develop novel catheter programs.
